Chapter Three Author Note: I am finally at the point in this story that I can explain its inspiration. A few months back, there was a commentfic prompt in the deancastiel community that piqued my interest. The prompt concerned a gift from Castiel to Dean that had obvious crack implications, but it made me wonder if I could write something completely non-crack using that prompt. Since then, I’ve lost the bookmark, so if you happen to be reading this fic and you recognize the gift, please accept my thanks for your “comment of inspiration.”

Chapter Three )

Yet another author note: Yes, this is the story that refuses to end. I feel like I’m in Monty Python’s Spanish Inquisition skit: there will be two chapters to this story, two…no, three chapters, only three, I swear—but wait, there’s an epilogue coming up, which will be Chapter Four—and so on!

Just a quick note to my "House" pals:

Although my job has put a stranglehold on my creativity for the past year, I'm privately celebrating, because my brain is beginning to bust out of that dark and cranky place it's been wallowing in for far too long. I've been inspired to write a short fic for another fandom (a total of 2 chapters, I believe), and I think I might finally be ready to finish up the last two or three chapters of Postcards.

Gosh, I miss that fic, and I miss all of you. I look forward to getting back to Postcards post-haste, and catching up with House fandom at large. Anything new or interesting happen lately? What, Chase and Cameron got married?!

Summary:  In the aftermath of the assault, Chase struggles to find direction...and unknowingly sends a plea for help to the right person.

Note:  No excuses are sufficient for this extremely long gap between updates, so I’ll simply say I’m sorry, and I hope to do better in future. Unfortunately, I’m unable to make promises, since the same real life pressures that caused this long delay still exist in my life. The one promise I’ll make is that I will finish writing this fic, no matter how long it takes me.

Thanks for reading. I truly appreciate it.

Okay, I've been given a much-needed scold by Poeia, so I'm popping up out of my groundhog hole to assure her (and anyone else who's been wondering if I came to a tragic, early end and forgot to post about it ;P) that  A) I'm still alive and  B) I have not abandoned the House fandom, current evidence to the contrary.

Anyway, thanks for your patience, and thanks, Poeia, for giving me the little push I needed. It's too easy to keep letting the noisier parts of my life take over--but I always like when someone brings me back to remembering what I love about fic-writing.

See you guys soon! I promise!

Again, a long absence but with reason. This was a difficult chapter for me to write.

Summary:   The story takes a turn toward darkness, as Chase encounters some terrifying aspects of the fanficverse. "No one’s coming to save you, Robert. Haven’t you learned by now? No one ever comes to save you.”

Okay, I am slowly coming back to internet life as my professional life finds its groove again. I intend to start working on Postcards 14 this weekend, but until then, I thought I'd have fun with this meme that [info]quack3790 tagged me for. i don't usually do memes but this one is very fanfic-centric, so it grabbed my interest.

Finally, after an interminable  and inexcusable absence, an update to Postcards.

Summary: Stuck in the fanfic universe, Chase has to grapple with the high incidence of car accidents, amorous coworkers, and a cosplay day in the clinic.

Apologies twice: once for my long absence (due to many boring reasons and one good one, known as NaNoWriMo), and once for the length of this chapter. I didn’t want to break the flow of this chapter by cutting it in half, since it follows one storyline (the cosplay clinic).

There is a more important reason for the size of Chapter Thirteen, however. Another reason I didn’t want to break it up was to keep the lighthearted tone intact. After this chapter, Postcards is going to veer away from comedic territory for a while and venture into the dark side of fanfiction. All appropriate warnings will be given at the top of Chapter Fourteen.

Finally, a belated thank you for the well wishes on my last post. I'm sorry for my tardiness, but life has been fractal lately, and all that. Thanks again!

ETA!!:

Okay, since I've been remiss and not posted the character pics (and misspelled Chansey and Bulbasaur's names - -;),
I decided to post the Pokemon pics of our favorite cast, plus the odd clinic patient and Brenda, of course.  Enjoy!

First of all, my apologies to Poeia and to anyone else who has (so kindly!) worried about my health and connected it to my several-weeks disappearance. I should've put up this notice sooner, but I kept thinking, "Yeah, I'll get on top of the situation and post the next Postcards, so everyone will know where I've been"--but as you see, I've failed miserably at "getting on top."

THANK YOU for your concern, and I'm SO SORRY for worrying anyone (I'm being very sincere, and also very embarrassed at my thoughtlessness.) Here's the truth behind my disappearance: my health has gotten much better, but my real-life job much worse. Toss in a big family Thanksgiving to hold, with requisite several days and weekends for house-cleaning, and finally, the piece de resistance: National Novel Writing Month.

Yeah, I've been scrabbling to work on my original novel with any scraps of personal time I might have, so as a result, my fanfic-cing and ability to comment coherently on blogs have fallen by the wayside. The saddest thing is that three-quarters of Postcards 13 was finished before November started, and as a result, House and Chase have spent the last three weeks tricked out in cosplay costumes (and boy, are they pissed! ^^)

I promise to return ASAP, and man, am I ever behind in commenting on everyone's wonderful fanfics (I'm talkin to you, quack, enigma, parkermonster, fluffy, and all the rest who keep me so entertained and enthralled!) I'll do my best to catch up in the next couple of weeks. So in the meantime (or until Nov 30! ^ ~), thank you for your well-wishes, please forgive my absence, and I'll get back here as soon as i can.

NOTE:  To the faithful friends of Postcards, who might be hoping for another madcap, humorous chapter: I apologize, but the plot has veered away from the comedic this week. Humor will return, but for now, Postcards is traveling on the serious side of its drama/humor genre. Thanks for your patience.

The next chapter will go back to the humorous side of Postcards' drama/humor genre, when canon!Chase endures a particularly wild and wacky day in the fanfic-verse clinic. In the interest of fairness, however, I’ll warn in advance that this story will take a detour in the near future towards the less humorous, more serious aspects of the fanfic-verse. After all, fanfic isn’t all fun and games; sometimes, someone does lose an eye. ^^

Thank you for reading.

Sorry for being gone so long; RL doing its usual thing and then I ended up doing something weird: I was working on Chapter Nine this past weekend, when I suddenly realized that the chapter had grown too long and needed to be divided into two separate chapters. Unfortunately, the part that was completely finished is the part that is now Chapter Ten, so I had to devote extra time this week to finishing up Chapter Nine. The good news is that the next update will be in less than a week.

Onto the chapter:

Next time, on Postcards:  House, Wilson, and Chase go to Broadway. ‘Nuff said.

As always, thank you for reading.

P.S. The line, “What’s the point of being an adult if you can’t act like a little kid?” is paraphrased from a line spoken by Doctor Who (Fourth Doctor, I think, although I can’t swear to it), property of the BBC.
